Program Overview
SSM Health partners with local colleges to provide qualified individuals with the opportunity to attend training and upon successful completion of the program, start working as a full-time Patient Care Tech (PCT). The accelerated training program combines online classroom instruction, hands-on skill labs and on-the-job training in a clinical practice to prepare you for a career in patient care. The training satisfies the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).
Program Objectives
- Learn how to work collaboratively as a member of a health care team
- Apply effective communication and ethical principles when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues
- Implement infection control and safety measures
- Provide personal hygiene, grooming, bathing and bedmaking, or elimination assistance to the patient
- Implement feeding and nutrition interventions
- Accurately measure and record vital signs and other patient measurements
- Perform phlebotomy procedures in a safe and effective manner
- Safely transport and move patients
- Demonstrate proficiency in performing EKG and respiratory support skills
- Provide skin and wound care
- Collect and handle specimens for laboratory testing
