WI Medical Assistant Training Program
Program Overview 

SSM Health offers an external training program for new or current employees who are interested in becoming a Certified Medical Assistant while maintaining full-time employment and pay with SSM Health. Instructions and materials are provided at no cost to the participants. Participants can choose to complete all course work, clinical, and lab experiences within a 12 month or 24 month time period.

  • Human Body in Health & Disease
  • Medical Office Insurance & Finance
  • Medical Terminology
  • Pharmacology for Allied Health
  • Medical Law, Ethics, & Professionalism
  • Written Communication
  • MA Administrative Procedures

Clinical & Lab Experience

  • MA Clinical Procedures I and II
  • MA Laboratory Procedures I and II
  • Medical Assistant Practicum

Program Eligibility

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Reside in Wisconsin and work for SSM Health
  • Maintain a performance rating of “meets expectations” or higher
  • Receive no formal discipline for the duration of the program
  • Maintain a passing grade in all coursework (non-passing grades may result in program removal)​​​​​​​

Program Length

  • Complete all course work, clinical, and lab experiences within a 12 month or 24 month time period
  • Participate and attend all in-person/virtual classroom and clinical sessions as required by the program on paid work time
  • Complete all homework assignments outside of the classroom on your own unpaid time

Program Benefits

  • No out-of-pocket program costs
  • Receive current pay rate for classroom, clinical training, and hours worked in your department
  • At the time of graduation, your pay rate will be assessed, and an appropriate Medical Assistant pay rate will be determined based on experience and equity
  • Work as a Medical Assistant at SSM Health*
​​​​​​​* Graduates are required to fulfill a 24-month work commitment after successful program completion. Failure to complete the 24-month work commitment requires reimbursement for the full cost of the program.
