Wisconsin CNA Training Program

Program Overview 

Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) work alongside nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals to provide direct patient care in a hospital setting. SSM Health is seeking qualified individuals who want to attend training for work as a full time CNA in Wisconsin. The self-paced accelerated training program combines 59 hours of online coursework followed by 16 hours of clinical training. The training satisfies the Wisconsin Department of Health Services requirements for Nurse Aide.  

Program Objectives


  • Learn how to work collaboratively as a member of a health care team
  • Apply effective communication and ethical principles when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues  
  • Implement infection control and safety measures 
  • Provide personal hygiene, grooming, bathing and bedmaking, or elimination assistance to the patient
  • Implement feeding and nutrition interventions 
  • Accurately measure and record vital signs and other patient measurements
  • Safely transport and move patients
  • Provide skin and wound care
  • Provide restorative services such as promoting joint mobility and assisting in using walkers or other equipment
  • Understand the nature of dementia and learn specific techniques for meeting the needs of patients with dementia

Program Eligibility

  • Be at least 18 years old 
  • Pass criminal background check, drug screen panel, and physical exam with documented proof of immunizations or titers

Program Length

  • 4 weeks online coursework
  • 16-hours onsite lab training follows the coursework
  • 16-hours onsite clinical training follows the labs
  • Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the state certification exam​​​​​​​

Program Benefits

  • Tuition funding included*
  • Upon program completion and successfully passing the state Nurse Aide exam, work as a CNA at SSM Health for up to 24 months*
  • Starting wage is $18/hour (rates subject to change)​​​​​​​
 
* Graduates are required to fulfill up to a 24-month work commitment after successful program completion. Failure to complete the 24-month work commitment requires reimbursement for the full cost of the program.

  • Complete SSM Health application and screening interview
  • Attend the CNA in person presentation
  • Interview with a SSM Health hiring leader 
  • Demonstrate academic and career readiness
